Keene YPN Serves Dinner at the Community Kitchen

“Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life, and not something you do in your spare time.”

Marian Wright Edelman (born 1939); Activist, president and founder of Children’s Defense Fund

We need 4-6 volunteers on Tuesday, August 30 from 4:30 to 7pm to serve dinner at the Community Kitchen.  Last year the Keene Community Kitchen served 900,000 meals to more than 11,000 area individuals.  Let’s take part and volunteer a few hours to this great organization.  You MUST RSVP prior to the event because there is paperwork that needs to be filled out.  If you’re interested, contact Jess O’Connor at Jessica@mds-nh.org for details.

Habitat for Humanity BUILD

Join Keene YPN as we partner with The Monadnock Habitat for Humanity in their annual build. This opportunity is limited 15 volunteers at the site.

To register, go to http://www.habitatnh.org/ and click on the “Volunteer Up” link. At the bottom of the registration page, mark that you are a member of the Keene YPN team, then click on the volunteer calendar and sign up for the August 6th date. To participate, you must sign up on the webpage, complete the safety training, and fill out a waiver.

Lunch, snacks and water will be provided. Wear closed toe shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. No wool turtle neck sweaters – it’s August folks. Sunscreen & bug repellant might be nice to have also. One thing you do not need is prior construction experience.

Head Start Early Sprouts Garden Project

Note:  This event has been postponed from Monday, August 15 to August 22.

Come get your hands dirty at the Head Start Early Sprouts Garden on Monday, August 22, 2011, 5:00 – 6:00 pm at Southwestern Community Services in Keene.

Jennifer Kozaczek, Head Start’s Nutrition Services Manager and Early Sprouts Coordinator will offer a brief overview of the garden, followed by an explanation of gardening tasks. For more information, contact Jamie White from the Keene YPN Community Committee at jwhite@scshelps.org or 603-352-7512.

Social Networking Event at Ramunto’s

No, this is not a misprint.  Join us at Ramunto’s for the second time this year from 5:30pm to 7:00pm in downtown Keene for Keene YPN’s monthly social networking event.  Why twice in one year?  Because we <3 Pizza @ Ramunto’s.  Mmm, pizza.  Mmm, beer.

Summer Pub Tour

Join us on Friday, July 15th at 6pm beginning at Cobblestone Ale House located on Emerald St. and Main St. for our Pub Tour the day after everyone’s favorite esoteric holiday – Bastille Day!

Bring your berets and your french baguettes – it’s going to be a great time!

Second Annual Beach Trip

This was a favorite last year, so we’ve decided to do it again. Meet up at the Brewpub lot, carpool up, and head to the beach. There will be some snacks, and some shelter to hide under, but bring your towels, your coolers, your buckets and your frisbees! It’s a full day of fun in the sun and walks on the board walk with your fellow Keene YPNers!! Keene YPN will cover the cost of parking for the drivers. If you are willing to drive, leave a note on the event page. If you plan to attend, please RSVP (and if you change your mind, keep your rsvp current?) so we’re sure not to leave without you!:)

Night Out at the Swampbats

Join the Keene YPN for a great night out at the ball park along with the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce to watch the Swampbats play Team USA! This will be a great game and a fun night. We could use a few volunteers to help man the Keene YPN table so if you’re interested let us know!
We’ll get out tickets closer to the day.
Visit the Swampbats for team information and directions:

Lunch Information Session

Join Keene YPN at a lunch info session for Habitat For Humanity. We will be learning more about Habitat For Humanity; specifically about the home we will be helping to build, and the family we will be building it for.
